Meticulous Faux-Mechanical Draftsmanship

I played a lot of Contra and dreamed this indescribable dream that followed me for a few nights. If I had to verbalize - it would have looked something like this but surrounded by a very lush field of flowers.

True mechanical drawing eludes me. So I turned to a book on Yoshitaka Amano who is a pro at sculpting technical structures rather than mechanical precision. Once I loosened up - things were erected. No.

Transferred onto Fabriano and did my first few inks.

Suck It Up

The first piece I did for the nightmare series was missing a little something. Maybe it was a little something like accurate horse anatomy. It's been sitting at the bottom of the drawer and I came across it the other day and decided to give it another shot because it's plain spooky.

One o' Those Big Ones

Okay. No photoshop. This is going to be a real live drawing.

Two large sheets of Fabriano 300 with a brush and Encere Sennelier walnut stain ink. Then colored Higgins waterproof ink which does this cool blue/brown thing with water. I added solid acrylic to the sky and put a wash of titanium white acrylic over the girls to give the girls a more uniform feel.

It's been a long while since I used charcoal. Can't say that I really miss it that much.
