Sketched it out with some unattractive reference of myself and did the painting in straight Higgins Waterproof Brown in a day.

This summer my hero, Michael McDonald was featured singing lead vocals on the b-side of Grizzly Bear's single for "While You Wait For The Others". It doesn't make any sense but GODDAMN that man is the coolest!

Got hooked up with New York City's own Gods Of Fire through Eric from Major League Dreidel to do a wraparound cover for their fall release Hanukkah Gone Metal out soon. A real treat to paint a suped-up version of Judas Maccabeus in all his kosher glory taking the temple.

I'm back with my first flyer in six months for those musical mutts Gilgongo. If you haven't aleady, you NEED to see these lunatics live. An assault to the senses (and to sexiness) this Long Island-based quartet is a steamroller.



To keep with what's happening (and due to my temporary lack of a workspace) I used one of my favorite images from the Bangkok show which will also be featured in my upcoming promo catalog going out this August.

Portrait of Michael Berger: Traveller Extraordinaire and All-Around Mensch

I recently got the chance to spend some quality extended time with old friend and fellow Long Islander Michael Berger who is also the original creator behind the hugely popular children's book "Moongirl", which was the inspiration behind the 2006 Annie Award Nominated short film of the same name which went on to win the 2005 Ottawa International Animation Festival Winner of Best Short Film Made For Children.



This prick does whatever he wants, whenever he wants and is never deterred by a hiccup or two. He is one of the most positive people I've ever had the privilege of knowing and a true inspiration.

Here's to having balls.

People, let me get this off my chest...

We all know that in the history of music, Kiss is not that important. But at 11 years old - bombast, machismo and blood simply took precedence over embarrassment due to the musical mediocrity of the band that I aligned myself with. For I will always carry a torch for these four icons of my youth. Somehow despite their ridiculous garb, their primitive and chauvenistic lyrical content and their total admittance to pandering to the most simple of minds - they instilled in me confidence, thick skin and a sense of optimism about life that I carry with me to this day.

Marking their 35th year, Kiss is going out on yet another tour. To most people in attendance this is going to be the most incredible spectacle they've ever seen onstage. Personally, I've dried up the well long ago so much so that I can predict Paul Stanley's between song banter - much to the surprise of nobody around me. (That's because no one who knows me gives a flying shit.)



For the past couple of tours, the shrewder half of Kiss have replaced the two other original members with younger, more agile, more choppy and less troublesome in their personas thanks to Gene & Paul's attainment of the likeness rights at the start of the reunion tour twelve years prior. I suppose this is kind of gross - especially to the people who think they are getting the real deal at the shows they pay through the nose to see. However, it's safe to say that I wouldn't expect anything else from these two masterminds. And like always I respect their decision to be dickbags. They're my step-parents, after all. And at least nowadays, along with a great show, they're giving their dissonant hits a bit of a facelift.

Though it's hard to improve "Detroit Rock City". That song sucks so badly.

I found this incredible black ink at Central World called Parker Quink. Testing it out on a drawing of one of the decrepit demon statues at Wat Arun, I couldn't believe how many colors came out of the same bottle. Quite a surprise. I'm going to have to stock up on some of this before I head back to NYC.

Since the recession has hit, I have been scoping Thomas L. Friedman's NY Times Op-Ed articles even closer than usual. When it comes to getting a real sense of the drastically changing world as we know it, he has this very comforting way of scaring the ever-loving shit out of the reader.

Robert Plant may not be joining Led Zeppelin on a new album and tour but I've got to admit - the man has consistently pushed the envelope with his music since 1982. Instead of becoming a vegas act like much of his contemporaries, the Commander of the Order of the British Empire Himself stays true to his blues roots while surrounding himself with musicians who nurture his non-Western musical interests. Him and Alison Krauss just cleaned up at the Grammy's with their duet album.
It just shows to go ya that even a Brit with an obsession with middle eastern music can conjure up more vivid Americana imagery than most yank musicians.

A real treat for me. I got to take a couple of stabs at the cover for the first issue of Brian Wood's DMZ on DC Vertigo - one of my favs. What is it about seeing NYC ravaged that keeps the people coming back for more and more?
